Does the Church really teach that humans can become like God?

Yes. We're literal children of Heavenly Parents, and through Jesus Christ we can grow to become like Him. The Church's essay explains this and shows that early Christian writers taught the same thing. It's one of the most powerful doctrines of the Restoration.
